Will 'Uncharted 5' Happen? Voice Actor Talks Possibilities

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has finally released, and the question on everyone’s minds is “So, when’s the next one?” We have heard numerous times that Uncharted 4 was going to be Nathan Drake’s last adventure, but voice actor Nolan North says he is up for another one.

In an interview with Vulture, North was asked about his participation in the franchise moving forward. “Depending on how much money this game makes, Sony might want to do another one with another studio,” North said. “And I would certainly come back.”

The most important part of that quote is the phrase “with another studio.” Uncharted is officially done at Naughty Dog. Director Neil Druckmann has previously said that this was going to be the studio’s last entry in the franchise. "We get more and more that feeling of this definitely [being] the end of an era for us as a studio," Druckmann told Official PlayStation Magazine. "We’ve been with this franchise for almost ten years now from inception all the way to this point. Luckily, we don’t get too much time to dwell on that feeling because we’re so busy, but every once in a while... you know?”

Druckmann reiterates this position in the Vulture article, vaguely referencing the ending of Uncharted 4. “Close to the end, a character is talking to another about one thing,” he said. “But there’s something very different on their mind, and they’re being jokey in the conversation, but as soon as they’re left alone, there’s a split-second where they look over their shoulder, and you see them having to let go. That really resonates with me.”

So what would an Uncharted 5 look like? If it were to star Drake (and North), a prequel would probably be best. We’ve seen glimpses into the past for Drake’s life, but reliving some of his other great adventures would be fun as well.

If Sony wanted a completely different take on Uncharted, my personal vote would go to making a prequel starring the number one best guy Victor Sullivan. Sully has got to have some interesting stories he’s been waiting to tell, and a game set during his younger years would definitely be cool to see.

This also leaves the huge question of who the new developers would be. Naughty Dog’s games all have such love and care put into them, seeing a different studio attempt that same level of quality could be risky for Sony. That being said, if Sony uses an in-house studio like Sony Santa Monica or similar, the talent would be there to make something Naughty Dog-calibur.

So what do you think? Would you like to see a new Uncharted game, even if it means from a different studio? Are you happy with how Uncharted 4 ended? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
