The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is arguably the most popular game of the modern generation. The game is a sequel to 2011's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, with both being based on the popular Witcher novel series written by Andrzej Sapkowski. Released in 2015, The Witcher 3 was met with instant success. Fans praised the game for its deep branching narrative and spectacular open world. If you're wishing to jump back into The Witcher 3, you will be excited to hear this announcement from CD Projekt Red.
CD Projekt Red announced earlier today that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be receiving a next-gen port for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. According to the developer, The Witcher 3 will take advantage of next-gen technologies like ray tracing and fast loading. The most exciting part of this announcement is that fans who already own the game on PC, PS4, or Xbox One are entitled to a free next-gen upgrade when it launches in 2021.
According to a blog post on CDPR's official website, the next generation of The Witcher 3 is "developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content. The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4."
Even though The Witcher 3 is considered a technological masterpiece, the game was seriously limited by hardware on last-gen consoles. Since next-gen consoles are said to be packing serious power, it will allow fans to experience The Witcher 3 with increased graphical fidelity and smoother frame rate.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The game will also launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
