The Hashtag Show leaked the Marvel’s The Inhumans casting breakdown last week, and now they have the scoop on X-Men: New Mutants. Imagined as a trilogy, these casting announcements are crucial to the success of the X-Men franchise, especially following X-Men: Apocalypse 's mixed reception and Hugh Jackman’s upcoming final run with the claws in Logan . The character descriptions (of course) come with codenames, but it was fairly easy to match each with the corresponding core New Mutants member. Check them out below.
CANNONBALL
[CHRIS] Male, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Tall, corn-fed Kentucky kid.
Cannonball (aka Sam Guthrie) flies at jet speeds and is able to create impenetrable force fields to protect himself, and absorb kinetic impact. His body naturally develops thermo-chemical energy that emanates from his skin, allowing him seemingly blast off and propel himself through the air. Nat Wolff is rumored for the role.
MAGIK
[ANNA] Female, 17 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Russian, sexy, with an obvious mean streak.
The sister of Colossus, Magik (aka Illyana Rasputin) is teleporter who can travel through time and space. Unlike teleporters like Nightcrawler who needs to see where he’s going, Magik can bring an entire group of people wherever she wants. Anya Taylor-Joy is rumored for the role.
SUNSPOT
[ROB] Male, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; Brazilian, cool, confident and extremely handsome.
Sunspot (aka Roberto "Bobby" da Costa) absorbs solar energy and transforms it into super strength. In his powered-up form, he turns all black except for his glowing white eyes.
WOLFSBANE
[JESSICA] Female, 16 years old, Actor must be an adult (18 or over) or a legally emancipated minor; British, punk rock shorn red hair, waif-like.
Wolfsbane (aka Rahne Sinclair) can transform into wolf form while still maintaining human intelligence. When in transitional form, the Scottish-born mutant still has access to superhuman abilities. Maisie Williams is rumored for the role.
MIRAGE
While not mentioned in the breakdown, Dani Moonstar, who also goes by Psyche, is expected to star in the movie. The Hashtag Show reports she wasn’t included in the breakdown because the role has already been cast. Josh Boone also teased an appearance from fellow New Mutant, Warlock, but there’s no mention of him in the breakdown either.
OTHERS
Rumors propelled by Taylor-Joy suggest James McAvoy will return as Charles Xavier, though his role hasn't been confirmed. If a previous deal with Fox holds, it means we could also see Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence return as Mystique and Magneto. Alexandra Shipp is also attached to the film, rumored to reprise her role as Storm. Demon Bear is expected to be the film’s villain.
Production begins May 2017.
