Progressing through Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice means that you are able to unlock a variety of skill trees, and all of them completely focus on different aspects of your character. It might be quite difficult for to you understand and choose where your Skill Points should be spent if you don't know the best skills already. And this is most especially the case when you start unlocking more trees as you continue playing the game.
Fortunately for you, this guide is all you need to have an idea of which skills you would want to unlock first.
#1. Mikiri Counter – Shinobi Arts
This is definitely one of the first skills you should get. The Mikiri Counter is one that you can always use to your advantage; hence, it is worth unlocking first. Basically, the move gives you the ability to effectively manage dangerous thrust attacks coming from enemies wielding spears. Just before an attack connects, activate the skill as you move towards the target. You will see Wolf stomping down on the enemy’s weapon. And in case you did not know, this actually deals massive damages to posture, giving you the opportunity to follow up with a final blow. The Mikiri Counter is a technique you want to master right from the start, and it only requires two Skill Points.
#2. Suppress Presence – Shinobi Arts
You need two Skill Points in order to unlock this passive ability. In order to do so, you must earn the aforementioned skill. Your goal here is to be undetectable when in stealth. Sure, it might not be as exciting as other skills out there (especially since it is passive), but keep in mind that enemies tend to have eagle eyes. They can easily see you right from the get-go. Considering the fact that you are just starting out, it is imperative to make your character difficult to see when sneaking around. This is a very handy skill that can make busy locations more manageable.
#3. Breath of Life: Light – Shinobi Arts
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice introduces you to deaths – lots of deaths. So, your best course of action is to find a way to sustain your life and fight through your enemies. Breath of Life is a skill that can help you do just that. It might require you to work a little bit harder, but it is definitely worth your time. Basically, the skill allows you to gain back some health after performing a Shinobi Death Blow of any kind. Remember that, at first, you will not have enough health bar and your Healing Gourd is only limited to a handful of uses. With that said, you want to use Breath of Life: Light as you try to deal with attacks. As mentioned, this skill is not that easy to obtain as you need Whirlwind Slash and A Shinobi’s Karma.
Once you have obtained and mastered these three skills, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice becomes a much easier game to play.
So what do you think? Have you unlocked these skills in Sekiro? What other abilities do you think make the game much easier? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
