One of the most highly anticipated sequels of 2025 is finally, and it's none other than "Monster Hunter Wilds."
Given all the hype and excitement, has it lived up to fans' hopes and expectations in the first few weeks of its release.
The answer seems to vary depending on who you ask.
Here's what you have to know about "Monster Hunter Wilds."
'Monster Hunter Wilds'
Released on February 28, 2025, "Monster Hunter Wilds" is the successor of 2018's "Monster Hunter: World." The action RPG is developed and published by Capcom.
As with the previous "Monster Hunter" games, the player takes on the role of a Hunter whose goal is to either capture or kill large monsters.
"Wilds" introduces new abilities for the players, such as the ability to carry two weapons into the field.
'Mixed' Reviews on Steam
As of press time, "Monster Hunter Wilds" has more than 167,000 user reviews on Steam, which have been categorized as "Mixed."
Steam user Aether gave the game a positive review, saying, "Absolutely genius decision to add back unique weapons and at the same time, introduce a gacha system that makes almost every best in slot weapon look identical."
"On a more serious note, I think this game is genuinely incredible," Aether added. "Despite all of the performance issues, they never impaired my enjoyment. But if you have a low-end pc, you might want to give it some time."
On the other hand, PrOwOxerWaffel gave it a negative review.
"After two weeks since the game's release, I am still unable to play it at all," PrOwOxerWaffel said in a Steam review. "As far as I can tell, no patch has been released to fix these issues."
3.7 Stars on Google Reviews
"Monster Hunter Wilds" is not doing much better over at Google Reviews, where it has a rating of 3.7 stars out of five as of writing.
"Definitely the best and most fun monster hunter to date," Saga Aenethre said in a Google review. "Has severe performance issues on higher graphics settings, but medium settings let the game run smooth without gameplay interruptions."
"I can't disagree with the people complaining about how easy the game is and how there's a finite amount of things to do and fight, but I want to let anyone new to the series know: this is normal with 'MH' games, and it will evolve over time," Saga Aenethre added.
"I never leave reviews, but this has been one of my favorite series since I first started out with it on the PSP about 20 years ago," Matthew Bell said in a separate review. "It no longer feels like the same game. The game looks fantastic and plays well enough, but the overall experience just isn't there."
