'Against the Storm' Beginner's Guide: Tips & Trips on How to Get Started

This beginner's guide for Against The Storm helps players progress through the early game and what they should know before playing. Steam, Eremite Games, Hooded Horse

Publisher Hooded Horse and developer Eremite Games' Against The Storm is an indie roguelite strategy game that tasks players with managing settlements in a world with constant weather phenomena.

In this game, you have to race against time in order to increase your reputation enough before the Queen loses her patience or you lose your settlers. The latter happens when they abandon you or they die.

Against The Storm is currently still in early access on Steam but it already feels quite complete for the majority of players who are into it. It features a very informative tutorial that teaches you about the game's mechanics and features.

But because it is such a massive game, the tutorial itself will not be enough for you to master everything that you need to. Fortunately, this beginner's guide gives some tips and tricks that will help you master the basics of Against The Storm.

You can Move Some Buildings

Players will probably spend much of their early game gathering resources to fuel their settlement's progress. You can do this by building the relevant harvesting structures close enough to the nodes that you get these resources from, according to The Gamer.

What makes this even easier is that you can actually move some of these buildings if you place them in the wrong spot. This is also useful as your workers deplete particular nodes of the resources that they provide.

Use the Pause Feature

The game has a lot of moving cogs that can sometimes overwhelm even the best players. Fortunately, there is a pause button. It lets you stop time and think about what you need to do next and how you can do it.

Even in this paused state, players can make decisions and send out build orders or even move buildings. You can also adjust resource usage and do other actions without having to worry about wasting time.

Keep Villagers Happy

Your villagers are your settlement's lifeblood and you can't really do anything without them. Keeping them happy and content is the best way of making sure that your workers are as efficient as they can be, Game Rant said.

There are several factors that affect villagers' happiness, including maintaining their resolve. This can be done by housing villagers and providing them with food and clothing. You should also make treatment available when they need it.

Against The Storm is also compatible with the Steam Deck, which gives players a chance to dive into its world in a more portable version.

While it runs well on this platform, the size of the screen can sometimes be a detriment to the gaming experience, according to Ars Technica.
