Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition is getting a new DLC that introduces the civilization of Mexico. Considered a strategically diverse civilization, it’s sure to give everyone a new gameplay experience. It’s releasing on December 1.
One of the things that make this civilization different from others is that the Mexican States have the option to Revolt instead of advancing to the Fortress, Industrial, or Imperial Ages. For each Revolt, players are offered a new deck full of opportunities. Plus, the civilization has the unique option to reverse the revolts and return to Mexico but still continue to have the benefits of any cards sent during the revolution.
Players can look forward to a brand-new set of Federal States that’s sure to evolve the gameplay and show that this civilization can adapt to any strategic situation.
New Historical Battles
Fans of Historical Battles can play a new scenario unique to this civilization. It’s all about the “Grito de Dolores.” In this one, as the Bourbon Reforms gave the Spanish elite more power and diminished that of the church, the resentment of the rural Mexican population grew. When news reached the Americas that Napoleon Bonaparte had conquered Spain, the words of a Catholic priest ignited the sparks of revolution.
For those excited about this new scenario, there’s more good news. Besides historical battles, expect the intertwined histories of Mexico and the US and many pivotal encounters.
On December 1, players who own the United States DLC get “The Burning of USS Philadelphia” historical battle for free. This is available even if they don’t get the Mexico DLC.
Meanwhile, those who have both the US and Mexico civilization DLCs get access to “The Battle of Queenston Heights” historical battle. This scenario is available to players even if they purchased the two DLCs separately.
The Civ Bundle
Players have the chance to enjoy the United States + Mexico Double Pack which has the two DLCs at a lower combined price. With these players can get:
- The Mexico civilization
- The United States civilization
- “Grito de Dolores” Historical Battle

In-Game Event
When the new DLC launches, it introduces the Fiesta Mexicana! in-game event. Beginning December 1, there are 31 in-game challenges for players to complete to earn unique profile icons. Those able to finish all 31 challenges unlock unique skins for in-game explorers.
The 31 challenges are in honor of Mexico’s 31 states. Pre-order the new DLC here.
