Remedy Entertainment may have filed a trademark request for Alan Wake’s Return, giving fans hope for a Alan Wake 2.
A Neogaf user shared Remedy’s trademark request that was filed via FastTrack on Feb. 23. Remedy has yet to comment on the request, but the post also mentions that the site “alanwakereturns.com” was registered as one the the game developer’s domains last year.
The timing of the trademark is a bit curious. Microsoft is holding an invite-only press event on Feb. 25 in San Francisco to discuss and demo their upcoming games for Xbox One and PC. Alan Wake was an Xbox exclusive title. Remedy might be preparing to announce the game during the Microsoft press conference. We’ll have to wait and see if Remedy shows up and we’ll keep you updated on the situation.
In the original Alan Wake, you played as the titular character who’s investigating the disappearance of his wife. Wake is a best-selling thriller novelist who tries his best to look for clues of his wife’s whereabouts. However, strange things begin to happen and Wake soon realizes he’s living the plot of his latest novel. The horror game quickly became a cult favorite and fans have been eagerly waiting for a sequel.
Remedy is currently working on the launch of their latest IP, Quantum Break, but the studio’s director Sam Lake told IGN in April 2015 they would consider revisiting the Alan Wake franchise in 2016.
"Alan Wake was one of the most engrossing and cinematic games of the Xbox 360 generation and it would be interesting to see what Remedy Entertainment would do if they decided to revisit the IP again,” Lake told IGN. “However, right now our focus is on working with them to deliver the best possible experience with Quantum Break when it launches exclusively on Xbox One in 2016."
