Anima Project has just announced Anima: Song from the Abyss, an action-adventure RPG title based on the tabletop game Anima: Beyond Fantasy. Song from the Abyss is set to release for PC, both current and next-generation consoles, and the Nintendo Switch.
The Anima series of games were first spawned as tabletop role-playing games which took inspiration from classic JRPGs such as Final Fantasy and Suikoden. Anima is set in the fantasy world of Gaïa and started with Anima: Beyond Fantasy, which was released in 2005, Since then, it has birthed multiple supplemental kits and saw its first video game re-imagining in 2011 with the release of Anima: Ark of Sinners for the Nintendo Wii. It was then followed by Anima: Gate of Memories in 2016, published by Badland Games for Linux, PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The most recent release was for the same platforms, titled Anima: Gate of Memories – The Nameless Chronicles which debuted in June 2018. The second and third games saw positive reviews compared to the panning of the first one - Anima: Ark of Sinners – which was criticized for its gameplay execution and unimaginative level designs.
A brief description for Anima: Song from the Abyss has been provided by Anima Project. It reads: “An imperial zeppelin plunges into chaos when, incomprehensibly, most of his crew disappear. Faced with an unknown threat, the only remaining Heaven Order knight on the airship tries to protect its cargo; a powerful artifact from times past. But unknowingly, he triggers a terrible catastrophe by freeing a legendary witch who was locked inside."
So far, there has been nothing new to expect from the series. It has a solid understanding of RPG mechanics, along with a fully-fleshed out lore and world. Players will be controlling two different characters, each with their own unique story and quests. It’s now up to Anima Project if they can execute on the solid material in their hands.
Anima: Song from the Abyss will be launching for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. No release date has been confirmed as of this writing.
