Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Direct that will focus entirely on the Animal Crossing mobile game. Details about the event are scarce, but it will not focus on anything else from Nintendo.
“Tune in for a roughly 15-minute Animal Crossing Mobile Direct video presentation focused exclusively on the upcoming Animal Crossing mobile title,” Nintendo’s announcement reads. “There will be no updates on any other topics including other mobile, Nintendo Switch or Nintendo 3DS software.”
The Nintendo Direct will take place on Oct. 24, and will not be a fun or easy watch for many Americans. The Direct will go live at 11 p.m. EDT, so you might want to wait until the next day to get caught up on all the news.
Like previous Directs, the live stream can be watched on Nintendo’s official site or Nintendo’s YouTube channel.
Specifics about the Animal Crossing mobile game remain a mystery. Based on previous Nintendo mobile games like Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing will be a take on the console/handheld version of the games, but modified for smart devices.
For example, Super Mario Run plays similarly to a 2D side-scrolling Mario game, with simplified controls to better align with other mobile games. Similarly, Fire Emblem Heroes feels like a full campaign you’d expect on your 3DS. Whatever form Animal Crossing mobile takes, it will surely capture that same whimsical spirit of the console games. You can also bet you’ll be earning Bells to repay Tom Nook some debts of some kind.
Animal Crossing mobile will likely release for both iOS and Android devices, but might not be releasing to both at the same time. Super Mario Run was released for iOS devices months before the Android version made it to the Google Play Store. We’ll have to wait until the Nintendo Direct to know more about the release information for Animal Crossing.
