Video game players know that all is not well with Anthem. First, there was that issue with the loot system. Then there was the matter of Anthem crashing consoles. The Anthem community is indeed in uproar and the good news, if one could call it that, is that BioWare is listening and that the developer has no plans of dropping Anthem support anytime soon.
The complaints reached a fever pitch when a Reddit user named harishcs created a post titled "Ok Bioware, what's going on?" One topic harshcs touched on was how there was a difference in communication prior to the game release versus the post-game release. The post also touched on what the reddit user noted as BioWare being confidential when it comes to patch notes. The post also cited how Anthem apparently has not learned from the mistakes of other games in the past. The Reddit post includes many more issues, and ends by saying that the community continues to believe in the game and "that all of this will pass and we can make something great out of this and all we ask in return is for you to speak to us."
As it turns out, BioWare was indeed listening and none other than community manager Jesse Anderson made a point-by-point response to the original post. Anderson starts by thanking harishcs and that he would not be able to "talk about everything, simply because it is not my area of expertise, or because I don’t have the information you’re looking for."
Regarding the first concern, Anderson cited that posting in forums or social media about the game was not the job of development team members and raised concerns that if people are not nice to the devs, they will stop posting. On the matter of the patch notes, the team will do what it can to be accurate, but there will always be a thing or two that will slip.
Ultimately, Anderson said that a lot of work needs to be done in order to repair certain parts of the game. He did say that "the team is committed to making improvements and releasing new content" and confirmed that "Anthem is here to stay."
The reply has since received a number of positive feedback from the community, citing how solid and honest Anderson appeared.
Making good on their word, BioWare introduced a game update today making changes in the loot drop rate, but only in specific scenarios. For example, the Masterwork and Legendary drop rates for Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3 difficulty levels have been increased. BioWare also increased the Masterwork and Legendary drop rates for harder enemies at all difficulty levels. According to BioWare, there is no need to download anything as “the changes will take effect in a server-side tuning update.”
