Ark: Survival Evolved has a brand new update on PS4, and you may be wondering what it does. Apparently, in very few words, the 800 MB patch is purely for stability. It provides additional fixes for blue screens and crashes. The news was posted by Studio Wildcard community manager Jat via Twitter.
To quote the post directly, he says “The PS4 patch that just rolled out is some further work Abstraction have done towards improving the memory, [and it] should mean less blue screens!”
Memory issues have plagued the PS4 version of Ark for the duration of January. The first round of fixes arrived nearly three weeks ago, and the issue was also addressed in the major v503 update that went live last week. The developers are still trying to nail down every cause, but it’s clearly being worked on.
What makes PS4 update 1.08 particularly interesting is how unexpected it is. As the Wildcard team puts the finishing touches on PC’s Tek Tier update planned for release next week, the next big console patch wasn’t expected to arrive until mid-February. As this is a particularly tiny fix for a PS4-specific problem, it was able to be certified and published well before then.
Needless to say, if PS4 survivors see a notification on their dashboard over the next few hours, it’s not for anything huge.
If you’re playing on PC, the next big date to look forward to is Jan. 30. After a few delays, the Tek Tier of items, a collection of new Dinos and hairstyle features will soon be added to the game. Console folks, of course, will have to wait for it.
Ark: Survival Evolved is available now on PC, Xbox One, PS4, OS X and Linux.
