Dig is back in the military. Felicity is dealing with the aftermath of Havenrock attack. Thea is Oliver’s new Mayoral Chief of Staff. Laurel is gone. The original Team Arrow is no more. That’s why Oliver has three new recruits this season: Artemis, Mr. Terrific and Wild Dog. Here’s our first look at the new group of vigilantes in costume.
As we saw in the Arrow Season 5 trailer, Rick Gonzales plays Wild Dog, also known as Jack Wheeler. In the comics, he got a full ride to college on a football scholarship but was injured shortly after, so joined the Marines. Most of his comrades were killed in a deadly bombing while he was deployed. Then tragedy struck again, when his girlfriend was shot dead. This is when he took on his alter ego, Wild Dog: auto mechanic by day, vigilante by night. He’s not afraid to kill his enemies and use his military expertise – and did I mention lots of machine guns? – to fight crime.
Artemis, played by Madison McLaughlin, will follow in the footsteps of the Black Canary. In the episode, “Canary Cry,” Artemis (known as Evelyn Sharp in Season 4) posed as the Black Canary and sought vengeance on Damien Darhk and Arrow for the death of her parents. As she was just about to kill Ruve Adams, Ollie stepped in and reminded her of the Black Canary’s heroic ways. Artemis’ costume definitely looks more like Black Canary’s, and far from outfit in Young Justice.
Curtis Holt, played by Echo Kellum, will finally assume his alter-ego, Mr. Terrific. At first we though Curtis Holt was just going to be Team Arrow’s new mechanical engineer, like Cisco is for Team Flash. Come to find out, he’s going to spend some time on the salmon ladder. "He wants to become a vigilante and he wants to start fighting crime," Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim revealed in July. "At the same time, he's got this husband at home that's probably going to start to notice that he's coming home with bruises and cuts."
Arrow returns Oct. 5.
