The upcoming third-person puzzle platformer game Ary and the Secret of Seasons will soon be launching for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. This announcement comes from publisher Modus Games (Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, Degrees of Separation) and developer eXiin Games. This news also comes with the release of a new nine-minute gameplay video showcasing protagonist Ary exploring mysterious temple ruins and wide grasslands while using her landscape and season changing abilities.
Ary and the Secret of Seasons follows the adventures of the titular heroine: a young girl named Aryelle as she journeys across the magnificent world of Valdi. Valdi, which was once threatened by an evil mage, is now kept safe by four great sages who formed the original Guardian of Seasons: a secretive and exclusive organization now shrouded in mystery. The plot is moved forward when a mysterious force throws the seasons of Valdi into chaos. Ary then decides to assist the Guardian of Seasons to discover the origins of the disturbance. Along the way, not only will Ary encounter hulking monsters and new ecosystems, she will also have to overcome rigid and stuffy traditions ingrained in the Guardian of the Seasons.
In the nine-minute gameplay teaser, we are given glimpses of how Ary and the Secret of Seasons attempts to put its own spin on the platforming and puzzle genre. The usual elements such as pinpoint movement and evasion of environmental traps can be seen, but the usage of the season spheres adds a very personal flair. The season spheres are required to solve a puzzle and move on to the next area or just to add swagger whilst in combat. You can either whale on the enemies like a madman or use your environments to style on them. A number of unlockable equipment can also be seen, such as boots that allow for double jumping, gloves that allow wall-climbing for specific terrain, and an unnamed great sword that appears halfway through the video.
Ary and the Secret of Seasons will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on July 28.
