The Souls-like action role-playing game Ashen will soon be releasing its first DLC according to developer A44 and publisher Annapurna Interactive. With the title of Nightstorm Isle, the DLC will come out on September 6 for the Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store.
For those who aren’t familiar with the game, Ashen is an open world co-op action role-playing game. The game focuses on a single-player, story-driven experience, but occasionally players encountering others in its world and it is up to them on whether they cooperate, form a party, or just ignore each other and go their own separate ways.
Traversing the brutal world takes skill. This is where the “Souls”-like moniker comes from. In Ashen, players are exposed to a punishing world filled with hostile enemies and monstrous creatures that players have to beat through the stamina-based combat system. As for its role-playing game elements, the game provides you with a home base that you can fill with characters that offer their unique skills for your benefit, such as foraging and blacksmithing.
The Nightstorm Isle DLC follows up on Ashen’s plot. A brief description can be read below:
“The wanderer accompanies a mother on a quest to find her lost daughter. Venturing far from familiar ash covered shores, players descend into the perilous depths of Nightstorm Isle. Countless horrors lurk below, yet nothing will prepare you for the ancient evil they imprison. “
Despite the initial disappointment regarding Ashen’s decision to be an Epic Games Store exclusive, the game has maintained positive reception, receiving an 82% and 78% rating on Metacritic for its PC and Xbox One versions, respectively.
Annapurna Interactive still has not confirmed whether this DLC would be free or paid, and whether this DLC would be exclusive for the Xbox One and Epic Games Store or if it will also be available on the PlayStation 4 and Steam. We’ll know for sure once Ashen comes out of exclusivity on December 9.
