A few months ago, the Russo brothers said there would be 67 characters in Avengers: Infinity War. The duo quickly clarified they were speaking figuratively, but added “There’s a lot of characters.” However, during a Saturday Wizard World Comic-Con Cleveland panel , Cleveland.com reports the brothers said, “The movie features 68 distinct characters, not 67.” Is this a joke?
The exact number is beside the point. Joke or no joke, 67 or 68 characters, this just proves the Avengers: Infinity War cast is going to be epic. Duri ng the January Wizard World New Orleans Comic Convention, Joe Russo revealed Avengers: Infinity War will focus on developing storylines for secondary characters. “It's cyclical. Some New Avengers in phase 4 are going to become prominent and then maybe some Avengers might not be around anymore...I think it's interesting that if you've seen four or five movies with the lead character having an arc, I want to see some storytelling from some of the secondary characters. We're focusing on that right now with Infinity War while we're breaking into those movies, is which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven't had their own 'A' story arc to this point. I think you'll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers."
In an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com in January, Joe Russo didn’t deny Guardians of Galaxy will make an appearance, but he didn’t confirm either. “People will not be disappointed in the amount of characters in the movie. The concept of Infinity War is that the Marvel universe unites to battle the greatest threat to the world and universe that you’ve ever seen, and we’re going to honor that concept.”
The Russo’s also said that Infinity War will be the culmination of MCU thus far. “It’s very ambitious in its scope, it wants to take everything that you’ve seen before and coalesce into some kind of climactic ending. It’s complicated , ambitious storytelling…We’re not talking about lead characters, just people that make an appearance.”
Recent rumors also predict Part 1 could may be filmed in Cleveland. “It’s easy to shoot a film here,” Anthony Russo said during Saturday’s Cleveland panel. “The climate is right. There’s a variety of looks in the city. Parts of Cleveland are like Manhattan, you have the countryside nearby, distinctive architecture and the waterfront. And we were able to shut down a highway for two weeks.” According to Movie Pilot , Joe also said The Avengers and Captain America: Winter Soldier crews named Cleveland their favorite place to shoot. “Chris Evans loves it here,” said Joe. “It’s on the list,” Anthony added.
The Russo brothers, who grew up in Cleveland, will direct both Avengers: Infinity War--Part 1 and Part 2. The former is set to release May 4, 2018, and the latter in 2019.
