Oh snap. Will Smith might be in the news for the wrong reasons lately, but he appears to be back on the right track with the confirmation of Bad Boys 3. I know, I know - we’ve been dancing around these rumors for awhile , but it looks like it’s really happening this time! Smith revealed his intentions on a BBC Radio 1 interview, promising that Bad Boys 3 was “definitely” on the way. Of course, the popular action franchise is incomplete without its other half, Martin Lawrence. Not to fear, the duo will be reunited for the third installment.
"I saw Martin [Lawrence] a few weeks ago," Smith says. "I haven't seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We're definitely doing another one."
So it goes. The Fresh Prince could definitely use a major Hollywood franchise to revive his popularity after a series of box office (and critical) failures. His recent outing, Concussion, generated a lukewarm response at best, and his absence from the Best Actor nominations at the Academy Awards partially led to a nationwide debate over the merit of black filmmakers . Some even believe his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, decided to boycott this year’s Oscars solely due to her husband’s denial. But that’s a whole ‘nother article.
Still, Will Smith hasn’t had a big Hollywood success since… Hancock? Actually, more like I Am Legend, since the former was slated by critics and audiences alike. There is hope on the horizon, however. Suicide Squad, in which Smith plays key member Deadshot, arrives in theaters later this year. It looks very, very good , so hopefully the former superstar can ride the coattails of DC Comics and bring back those fun Will Smith movies that we all know and love.
Did you think this article would end on a high? Sorry, Smith also stated that Wild Wild West 2 is “probably” not going to happen. What a cruel world.
