Developer Larian Studios has released Hotfix 14 that fixes crashing issues on select hardware configurations and in Act 1.
Since the game’s system requirements are not too demanding, it can be played on multiple PC configurations. In fact, you can even run the game on a modest PC.
But because there are several CPU and GPU models out there, a game may experience instability due to incompatible settings. Although the developers did not highlight what particular hardware configurations are at fault, the game should be more stable now than before.
The recent update not only fixes the crashing issues that can happen on Act 1 but also fixes the launcher crashing problem on startup.
Aside from fixing the crashing problems, the update has fixed the issue where players are greeted by the “Device Lost” Vulkan API error message.
Here are the patch notes:
- Fixed "Device Lost" Vulkan API error message
- Fixed the launcher crashing on startup on certain hardware configurations
- Fixed a crash when loading Act 1
- Fixed an issue with specific interfaces being displayed incorrectly at lower resolutions
- Fixed not being able to reach the skeleton with the damaged headpiece in the blighted village
Current Issues
The recent hotfix should theoretically make the game more stable, right? But apparently, that is not the case as some players have experienced another set of issues.
Redditor @Northguard3885 said that the game ran smoothly prior to the recent update. But after installing it, the performance dropped considerably which led to low frame rates and lots of stuttering.
Another user said that they have noticed major issues after updating their AMD graphics driver. They’ve added that anyone who’s updated their GPU drivers recently may have to revert back to a previous version, for now, if they experienced anything out of the ordinary.
In another thread, Redditor @SackvilleBagginses said that they are unable to climb the vines to leave the Hag’s Den in Act 1.
Despite the presence of certain issues, the developers have kept a close eye on community feedback. In fact, the recent hotfix was created as a way of fixing the Vulkan crashes that were common before the update.
Hopefully, they can iron out the other bugs that prevent players from progressing through the story.
