‘Batman: The Killing Joke’ Trailer Reveals Iconic Moments From 1988 DC Comic

DC Comics Batman: The Killing Joke has released its first full-length trailer. The R-rated animated film is based off the one-shot comic by the same name. The Killing Joke (1988) follows the Joker’s origin story. Turns out, The Joker used to be a chemical engineer before becoming a villain. He quit his job to start a career in stand-up, but failed. Out of desperation to support his pregnant wife, The Joker agrees to help some criminals rob his former employer. The plan goes awry and Joker gets caught by Batman. The Joker panics and jumps into a tub of chemicals becoming the villain we know today.

Or so that’s how The Joker remembers it in this comic. Anyway, you’ll see some of the iconic moments of The Killing Joke comic come to life in the trailer below. The trailer includes the scene where The Joker shoots Barbara Gordon (Batgirl), which leads her to becoming Oracle. It also includes a stripped down Commissioner Gordon on an amusement park ride that may reveal the infamous photos of a wounded Barbara.

Batman: The Killing Joke animated film stars Mark Hamill as The Joker, Kevin Conroy as Batman, Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon and Twin Peaks star Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon. Batman: The Killing Joke will premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con in July, but DC Comics hasn’t confirmed when the movie will be available for download or DVD.
