Jena Malone isn’t playing Robin in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice after all. A new rumor points to Malone portraying Barbara Gordon in the Batman vs. Superman movie.
The news comes from an alleged magazine scan posted by ComicBookMovie. The unnamed French magazine has a list of characters featured in the Batman vs. Superman movie, which listed Malone as Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl a.k.a Oracle.
Malone was originally connected to the Batman vs. Superman production when fans spotted her with Zack Snyder while he was filming in Chicago. The original reports of Malone’s casting claimed she would play Carrie Kelly, the female Robin.
iDigitalTimes predicted Malone would play Barbara in a post published in July 2015. It’s important to note the alleged magazine scan mentions both Batgirl and Oracle with a question mark. Judging by Batman vs. Supermanmovie’s timeline, there’s a strong possibility Barbara is Oracle at this point.
More specifically, if Jason Todd is confirmed dead in Batman vs. Superman, which might be the case since Batman has a Robin costume in his Batcave, then that could mean we’ll see or get a mention of Dick Grayson as Nightwing. If this is the case, Barbara likely already had her encounter with the Joker where he shoots her in the spine causing her to take on the role of Oracle. This would only be the case if the Batman vs. Superman movie follows the comic book timeline. However, an older Batman would mean an older Barbara, which points to Oracle.
Unfortunately, the Batman vs. Superman movie production has yet to confirm Malone’s role in the upcoming movie. Batman vs. Superman is slated to hit theaters on March 25.
