Battlefield 1 Premium Trials are officially live through Aug. 21 according to Battlefield Bulletin, and that means everyone can play all of the They Shall Not Pass multiplayer maps for a limited time. In other words, Verdun Heights, Fort De Vaux, Soissons, Rupture, Nivelle Nights and Prise de Tahure will be free to all over the next few days.
Since this brief access period is part of Premium Trails, however, it does come with a few limitations. Most notably, all XP gained on those maps will be stored retroactively until the player purchases the complete pass. The trial is also only limited to maps, so that means it’s not possible to spawn with any of the They Shall Not Pass weapons or vehicles without owning the pass first. It’s essentially the same as the established Premium Friends promotion, except players don’t need a friend to participate.
That being said, if you find these maps fun enough to purchase a Premium Pass, now might be a nice time to invest. It’s selling on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live for $40, as opposed to its standard $50 price. On Origin the discount is even steeper. It’s dropped 40 percent to just $30.
This is the second Premium Trials event following the first one at the end of July. If you happen to miss this limited promotion, the next one is expected to be held in September. By then, it could theoretically allow free access to the In The Name Of The Tsar DLC expansion too.
It’s far from coincidence that this latest Premium Trials bid ends on the exact same day as EA’s planned Gamescom festivities. While largely unconfirmed, it seems likely that the publisher might announce and release another Russian map during the show itself. After all, there are still two totally unknown maps included in the expansion. That tempting tactic might be just enough to push some undecided players over the edge.
As we know it today, Battlefield 1 In The Name Of The Tsar brings six maps, 11 new weapons and playable female soldiers into the game. Some of these features have already appeared in the Community Test Environment, and most of the guns have already leaked as a result.
Battlefield 1 is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
