Apparently EA features a hidden feature that offers Battlefield 1 players a bit of Wolfenstein 3D nostalgia, circa 1992 – a glitch causes the latest shooter to dramatically drop its resolution to a ridiculous 160 x 90p. Redditor 12thedata12 shared a PS4 screenshot to demonstrate the awful graphics quality:
For the older generation of gamers, the throwback graphics are pretty cool, but most PS4 gamers won’t be happy with the bug at all come Battlefield 1’s official release date on Oct. 21. EA and DICE utilize dynamic resolution scaling in order to ensure Battlefield 1 maintains 60 FPS (frames per second) and it looks like the scaling system can sometimes be a little too zealous about frame rates and compromise resolution as a result.
DICE may have a difficult time taking care of this handle the glitch by the Oct. 21 launch. Despite dynamic resolution scaling working overtime, the frame rates of Battlefield 1 on PS4 can sometimes still drop to 30 fps during intense action sequences. Stay tuned as we expect to learn about a launch day patch for Battlefield 1 in the days ahead.
