The latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies Chronicles DLC is finally out for PS4. According to Treyarch co-studio head Jason Blundell, the Zombies Chronicles expansion represents 10 years of zombies distilled to create the quintessential zombie experience from eight iconic maps, spanning from World at War, Black Ops, and Black Ops 2.
"As a team that is heavily invested in telling the Zombies story to a community that is invested just as heavily, we feel strongly that this is the core of that experience. Zombies Chronicles features the classic characters that fans have come to know and love, as well as the deep storylines that have become the hallmark of Zombies."
The Zombie Chronicles DLC maps are as follows:
- Nacht der Untoten (World at War)
- Kino der Toten (Black Ops)
- Verruckt (World at War)
- Shi no Numa (World at War)
- Shangri-la (Black Ops)
- Moon (Black Ops)
- Ascension (Black Ops)
- Origins (Black Ops II)
And of course, because many of the maps were extracted from CoD titles back in the PlayStation 3 days, Treyach had their work cut out to remaster it all for PS4 as well.
Not only did the dev team update the fidelity of both audio and visuals, the team made updates to gameplay and mechanics as well. For one, the DLC will bring back an arsenal of weapons from the old maps. As for gameplay, Treyach noted the zombies from the original Nacht der Untoten of Call of Duty: World at War offered extremely basic AI. Since the advance in AI has come a long way these days, part of the remaster involved importing Treyarch's most advanced AI algorithms from Black Ops III to the legacy maps.
Finally, Black Ops III also introduced an in-game economy of GobbleGums, which added a new dynamic to how players engaged zombies. Of course, the old school purists may not use them, but adding it into the remastered expansion meant players will have more freedom of choices.
The Call of Duty: Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles DLC is out now for PS4 and retails for $30. While a release date for Xbox One and PC versions has yet to be announced, expect the Call of Duty expansion DLC to launch about a month after its PS4 debut. Players that purchase the Zombies Chronicles expansion will also receive 20 vials of Liquid Divinium, two new "whimsical" GobbleGums, and a Zombies Pack-a-Punch weapon camo.
Last but not least , Activision announced a special "8 Days of Undead" event (available on all platforms) to celebrate the latest DLC launch. During this event, Black Ops 3 players will get to earn double XP rewards and new community challenges. Zombies Chronicles DLC players on PS4 will also get a Zombies theme and calling cards.
