Cliffhanger Games announced that it's working on a new Black Panther video game in partnership with Marvel Games. The announcement comes as Black Panther is celebrating its first appearance in Fantastic Four #52 back in July 1966. If you're keeping count, it's been 57 years since the king and protector of Wakanda made his presence known.
Not much has been revealed about this game except that it will be a third-person, single-player game. In addition, it's going to offer an expansive and reactive world where players can experience what it means to be the Black Panther.
The game's development will be led by none other than Kevin Stephens, formerly of Monolith Productions. He was one of those responsible for the game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. He'll be overseeing a team composed of veterans in the industry, involved in titles like Halo Infinite, Call of Duty, and God of War.
In a statement, Stephens revealed that it's going to be a story-driven video game with an authentic and definitive Black Panther experience. He said that they plan to give players more agency and control over the narrative. He went on to say that Wakanda is a rich sandbox, and they want to create a world for players who love the character and those who want to explore more of Wakanda.
Stephens also shared that they're excited to collaborate with Marvel Games and make sure that they're able to develop each aspect of Wakanda from the technology to its heroes. He also said that they want to have their own original story with attention to detail and authenticity that this world deserves.
We don't know yet which platforms are supported or what's the game's estimated release window date. Stephens admitted that it is still in early development and there's a long road ahead. However, he assures fans that when it comes to a great story, it's important to have an experienced team having diverse voices and perspectives.
What do you think? Are you excited about the game or was the announcement made too early?
