Can Ridley Scott possibly justify Blade Runner 2?

Blade Runner 2 starts shooting in July, turning our worst nightmares (a Blade Runner sequel) into a fairly enticing reality. The Blade Runner sequel not only will see the return of Harrison Ford, but also adds Ryan Gosling to the mix, presumably as a sexy, blonde detective, or replicant, or human or something.

'Blade Runner' Sequel - The Good News

Other good signs for the upcoming Blade Runner sequel includes director Denis Villeneuve, who directed the frustratingly opaque, but hypnotic Enemy and 2015 drug thriller Sicario. Finally, Blade Runner 2 will be shot by Roger Deakins, who convinced the world that really, really good lighting meant Skyfall was a good James Bond movie.

... And The Bad

But after all that the good news for Blade Runner 2 dries up. While original Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher returned to write the script, producer Ridley Scott paired him with Michael Green, best known for Green Lantern and quite a lot of mediocre TV. Plus, there’s no Philip K. Dick source material for Blade Runner 2, Ridley Scott came up with the story himself.

No release date has been set for the Blade Runner sequel. All we can do is sit and wait, as one of the most important science fiction movies ever made gets squeezed through the modern movie machine.
