The carnage and adrenaline filled racing game franchise of the noughties, Burnout, will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch for the very first time. According to publisher Electronic Arts, the Criterion and Stellar Entertainment developed Burnout Paradise Remastered will burn rubber towards a June 19 release date for the Nintendo Switch.
Burnout Paradise Remastered is the seventh installment in the Burnout series. It's an open world racing game focused on aggressive, reckless driving that usually ends up in a glorious crash with tons of heaping metal flying through the streets. Released initially in 2008 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, Burnout Paradise saw the reinvention of the series that introduced motorcycles, day and night cycles, and an open-ended progression system, leaving the exploring up to the players. Out of the eight games in the Burnout series, Paradise garnered the highest critical acclaim thanks to its extremely satisfying gameplay and its open world mechanics: a first for the Burnout franchise.
The game’s debut on the Nintendo Switch will include the complete Burnout Paradise complete with eight DLC packs (Big Surf Island, Cops and Robbers, Legendary Cars, Burnout Bikes, Burnout Paradise Toys, Burnout Paradise Party, Boost Specials, Cagney). The DLC packs contain new locations, game modes and 130+ vehicles to roam Paradise City with. As is mentioned in the name, Burnout Paradise Remastered will be fully optimized for the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities, guaranteeing a smooth 60 frames per second, high-resolution textures, and gestures meant to be used for the Switch interface. Lastly, and perhaps the most important part, Online Play will be revived for the Nintendo Switch versions so nostalgic fans can play with their friends to wreak havoc in these virtual streets.
Burnout Paradise Remastered will be available for the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop on June 19th for $49.99. This is $10 more than the console and PC versions were back when they released in March 2018.
