Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare update 1.17 added the Proteus sniper-shotgun to the game, and it may be one of the most OP guns to ever feature in a Call Of Duty game. Following rampant complaints about this so-called aimbot weapon, Infinity Ward says a nerf is on the way.
After being inundated with criticism, the developer’s official Twitter account has left the following message. “We’ll be making some tuning adjustments to the Proteus sniper/shotgun combo as soon as we can.” The representative then thanked gamers for their feedback.
For those who want to know what the hype behind the Proteus is all about, look no further than the video footage below. YouTube’s SwaggXBL tried out the gun on Tuesday, and it produced some rather troubling results. Not only was he able to rack up kills every few seconds, but many of those kills were totally from hip fire. Worse yet, some shots that weren’t even aimed at opposing players registered as a headshot. In other tweets, irate fans noted totals of more than 60 kills in a single round without once aiming down sight. Simply put, the Proteus has been a huge mistake.
While it sounds hyperbolic to refer to the Proteus as an aimbot gun, that’s exactly the kind of effects players are experiencing right now. In most cases, Hardcore mode has become overrun by those hoping to take advantage of the easy XP boost. Especially for fair players who grind for every tiny bit of Salvage they can possibly get, this botched introduction is infuriating, and it temporarily cheapens the achievements Infinite Warfare’s top players have earned. This obviously isn’t the first time a shooter has dealt with the troubles of an overpowered gun, but it’s a pretty major example.
At the time of writing no timeframe has been announced for the fixes, but, especially with Fourth of July weekend on the horizon in the U.S., it doesn’t seem unreasonable to assume progress may be slightly delayed. This is especially true considering the game’s third DLC pack is expected to arrive around July 4.
In addition to adding the Proteus to Infinite Warfare’s weapon roster, update 1.17 also brought the Trek 50 and M1.27 snipers to the game as well. It also featured a new announcer pack, bounties for Zombies mode and the necessary hooks for the Call Of Duty Days Of Summer event . From now through Aug. 1, players of Infinite Warfare, Modern Warfare Remastered and Black Ops 3 will be privy to free weekly Supply Drops, increased map access and a bunch of summer-themed goodies.
