Just over 12 minutes of new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are now online, giving fans an extended look at an early mission from the game’s campaign. The footage was captured during the opening moments of the game, shortly after the Settlement Defense Front -- the antagonistic faction led by Kit Harrington -- ambushes UNSA forces. Thankfully this week’s demonstration skips most of the opening cinematics, preserving those moments for Call of Duty fans to experience on launch day.
We learned a few things from the new Infinite Warfare footage, too. The game’s opening mission will apparently be called “Black Sky” and it begins by dropping players directly into the recently bombarded streets of Geneva. Quicktime events are (unfortunately) alive and well in this year’s Call of Duty . Not everyone will be thrilled with the decision, but at least there probably won’t be anything as heavy-handed as Press F To Pay Respects for a few years.
On a more serious note, we’re genuinely impressed with how good this year’s Call of Duty looks in motion. Granted, we’d be shocked if this week’s Infinite Warfare footage wasn’t captured on a gaming PC, and a powerful one at that. But not having to create geometry and textures that can be downscaled for last-gen platforms has clearly given Infinity Ward the freedom to push the envelope a bit when it comes to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare ’s graphical fidelity. The new footage also offers fans an early look at some of the futuristic weaponry that will be at their disposal when Infinite Warfare heads to stores in November.
