Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare just lost its new Infected multiplayer mode so Infinity Ward can make some non-specific “adjustments” to how it’s played. The developer confirmed as much in a tweet on Wednesday.
To quote the message directly, it reads “we've temporarily removed Infected while we make some adjustments. We'll give an update once it's been added back. Thanks for your patience!” That aforementioned update has not arrived after nearly a day since the mode was removed.
Despite being one of Infinite Warfare’s most popular post-release modes, the fan-favorite match type launched with a few issues. While some quiet complaints have been made in regard to weapon balance, its main problem has been key farming. Because players earn a few keys after each round of Infected, many would leave their consoles idle while the currency piled up. AFK teammates ruin the experience for others, and they cheese Activision’s business model, so it’s likely that something is being done to address it.
Infected first debuted as a multiplayer game mode in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and it’s appeared in several franchise titles ever since. One infected player wields a knife and stabs others to infect them. The last players to remain uninfected when time runs out are victorious. The mode was added in the game’s 1.04 update that went live about a week ago.
Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare has had a fairly smooth launch besides a few stray bugs, even though its sales numbers have underperformed. Its multiplayer has been criticized for pay-to-win mechanics and microtransactions, so some players likely felt justified for using Infected to farm.
Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
