Anyone who plays video games knows that Call of Duty missing its annual launch is not just possible. We know that Activision will release another COD in 2022, and we have an idea of which one it may be.
The Leak
A well-known leaker, Tom Henderson, revealed that next year’s Call of Duty is a follow-up of Modern Warfare (2019). It is code-named Project Cortez. The leak was further supported by a report suggesting that the campaign will focus on Columbian Drug Cartels.
Project Cortez's name is apparently inspired by Colonel Félix Cortez, the main antagonist from the 1994 Harrison Ford movie, Clear and Present Danger.
Why We Think the Leak is Accurate
The leak seems quite believable as Henderson is known to have accurate information about Call of Duty and Battlefield titles. Almost all of his claims about this year’s BF and COD have come true.
Project Cortez was also mentioned in the massive Nvidia leak that took place a couple of days ago. The developer name next to the title was Infinity Ward, and the publisher's name was Activision Blizzard.
Expected Follow-Up
The fact that next year’s game is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is not something bizarre. The game would follow the usual three-year development cycle of COD games. The re-imagination of MW IP, Modern Warfare (2019), was a massive success. While the game featured many beloved characters, it also had a completely new story. Even the end credit scenes of MW highly suggested a sequel.
According to the end credit scene, fan-favorite characters like Ghost and Soap might return in the new game.
While you wait for the sequel, you still have one more COD game to enjoy. This year’s game, Call of Duty Vanguard, will take you back to World War 2. The game will focus on all four fronts of the war. The goal of your characters is to hunt down the director of Gestapo, Heinrich Freisinger.
