Cyberpunk 2077 's rocky launch has divided the fans into two. Some appreciated CD Projekt Red's efforts in creating a marvelous open-world game. While others are furious with CDPR, accusing the developer of hiding the truth from the community. Moreover, the developer has claimed to have recovered development and marketing costs for the game from pre-orders alone. That showed how many people believed in the developer and pre-ordered the game.
Besides the bugs and graphical issues, Cyberpunk 2077 runs quite well on modern hardware. Consoles like the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X run it just fine. But things start getting messy when playing it on base consoles of the last generation. Firstly, the game struggles to maintain a consistent 30FPS on PS4. Then, it dips down consistently, ruining the experience entirely. The game also looks very blurry due to the lower render resolution. On top of those is a plethora of bugs plaguing the game. So, the whole experience is downright atrocious for fans who have been waiting for the game for such a long time.
Although the base PS4 players are having a difficult time running the game, it seems that the base Xbox One console isn't suffering as badly. After the update patch 1.04, the game appears to be running better. But not as much as most fans would expect it to run. The game still looks blurry with occasional frame drops. Recently, hardware analysts offered their opinion on the game's performance on PS4 and Xbox One. They claimed it could be held back by the CPU and the mechanical hard drives. Thus, the game is currently beyond any fix.
In an apology released by CDPR, the developer explained how it is bent on fixing the game. A series of bug fixing updates and two large patches are set to release in January and February. It means fans have to wait next year. Though, these patches may optimize the game for the consoles' hardware.
Meanwhile, OpenCritic issued a warning to consumers about the state of the game. The warning reads, "CD PROJEKT RED intentionally sought to hide the true state of the game on Xbox One and PS4." The warning also adds that CDPR only showcased the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X version of the game for marketing purposes. It prevented fans from making an informed decision.
CDPR is currently in a very critical position where it has deceived its fanbase that trusted and supported the developer all along. Now, the only way they can right the wrongs is by fixing the game as soon as possible. They have to ensure that the fixes will make the game playable on the base consoles, which according to hardware analysts seems impossible.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Google Stadia.
