Publishers Deep Silver (Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Conan Exiles, Shenmue III) and Tripwire Interactive (Road Redemption, Killing Floor series) and developer Blindside Interactive have just unveiled the launch trailer for an upcoming twist on the role-playing game genre. The game, aptly named Maneater, is an open-world ‘ShaRkPG’ set to release on May 22. Check out the launch trailer for Maneater below.
Maneater puts players in the shoes (or rather, fins) of a shark hellbent on causing chaos at nearby beaches and coastlines. True to its role-playing game roots, players will start off as a small shark pup who must be guided to survive the harsh open waters while eating your way up ecosystem. While on your way to becoming the apex predator of the seas, you will encounter threats from both humans and other wildlife. Finding the right resources is also key as this will unlock specific paths for you to upgrade and tailor your shark’s abilities to your liking and playstyle.
The amount of customization and stat systems in Maneater will make every playthrough a truly unique experience. Players have the option to upgrade whatever part of their body to improve how they function, whether it be to make your bites more powerful and ferocious, or to make you the ultimate pursuer of the oceans.
Maneater features seven large regions including bayous off the gulf coast, resort beaches teeming with tasty humans, industrial docks, the open ocean, and more. Once you’ve evolved from a shark pup to an adult shark, then you can start wreaking havoc either by disrupting entire ecosystems, lurking in shipwrecks, swamps, or swimming through the open ocean. If you’re feeling particularly daring, roam the coastlines and prey on unsuspecting divers and swimmers and show them who’s boss around these parts.
Maneater is going to be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store. A Steam release date is yet to be announced. A Nintendo Switch version is set to launch later this year. Maneater will release for the price of $39.99.
