Publisher/ Developer City Connections has just announced that they will be releasing the classic shoot-em up Strikers 1945 III for the PC via Steam on June 30.
Originally released in 1999 by Japanese developer Psikyo, Strikers 1945 III is the third of the series, with Strikers 1945 being released in 1995 and Strikers 1945 II in 1997. The original game’s plot follows the summer of 1945 after the end of World War II. During a time of relative peace throughout the world, a mysterious organization with ominous intentions called C.A.N.Y. has emerged from the shadows to conquer the world using superweapons that nobody has ever seen before. Players must now choose from six jet fighters who have formed the team of the titular Strikers and embark on a mission against the powerful threat. Strikers 1945 II follows the same formula with a new faction known as F.G.R. has taken the place of C.A.N.Y. and now uses the same superweapons and new massive mecha technology to gain world dominance.
With Strikers 1945 III, the plot travels to outer space. Set 54 years after the events of the second game, the world is now in danger from an extraterrestrial swarm of microscopic robots called nanites. These nanites have invaded Earth and infiltrated almost all the military bases in every country, including the villainous F.G.R. forces. Due to being infiltrated by these nanites, the weaponry in these bases began indiscriminate attacks towards every country in the world.
So, what should players expect from the re-release? Aside from the obvious technical improvements, City Connections has also added new gameplay mechanics such as technical bonuses and chain bonuses. A new game mode has been added, difficulty levels can be adjusted, and some improvements have been made to controls, screen orientation and more. Online rankings have also been introduced.
Strikers 1945 III will launch for the PC via Steam on June 30. Also, its predecessors Strikers 1945 and Strikers 1945 II are currently available on PC via Steam for $9.99 each. Other Psikyo-developed shooter titles are also available on Steam such as Gunbird, and Samurai Aces, while Gunbird 2 is set to be released on June 10.
