Will Red Dead Redemption 2 make it to Nintendo's new hybrid gaming console, Nintendo Switch? The short answer is no. I mean, come on, Rockstar announced on its Newswire that Red Dead Redemption is only slated for PS4, Xbox One and PC come fall 2017.
Could Rockstar have intentionally omitted the Nintendo Switch from its Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement, so as not to spoil Nintendo's surprise? Perhaps. But early Nintendo Switch hardware specs suggest the new game console's modest NVIDIA Tegra chip might not be up to par with the heavyweight PS4 and Xbox One, which means RDR 2 may be too much for the Switch.
But what about a Red Dead Redemption remaster? While rumors of a Red Dead Redemption remaster have been going around for some time now, Rockstar did not announce a Red Dead Redemption remaster along with its anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. Still, a RDR remaster should not be completely discounted – it makes the perfect launch title for Nintendo Switch.
Unlike the Wii U, the new Nintendo Switch is charging right out of the gate with partnerships with many third-party developers, including some big names like Bethesda, Square Enix, Ubisoft and Take-Two Interactive. That's right, the same Take-Two that owns Rockstar, the creators of Red Dead Redemption and the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
We know the potential a Nintendo and Take-Two Interactive partnership could hold, but only time will tell what the two companies have planned for the future. Stay tuned as we expect to learn more about the Nintendo Switch launch titles in the months ahead.
The Nintendo Switch is slated to arrive in March 2017. Rockstar announced Red Dead Redemption will drop in the fall of 2017.
