Publisher Activision and developer Toys for Bob have just announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. The long-awaited return of the marsupial is set to release for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2 for $59.99.
In a blog on the Activision website, Toys for Bob detailed what fans of the popular action-adventure platformer should expect from the brand-new installment to the series. The name Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is very fitting since the title that preceded it was released over 10 years ago. This time, the platforming adventure has been “completely built from the ground up, and a true successor to the original trilogy”.
In a play on words, the game’s title is also telling of what it will be about: Time. In Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, Crash will be journeying, collecting wumpas, spinning, and slamming across a landscape that is filled with conflicts of cosmic proportions. It follows the events after Crash Bandicoot: Warped, which ended with Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy, and Uka Uka being left stranded on a distant planet. The villains managed to plan their escape, so now Crash and Coco are the only ones that stands between the evil group and their dominion over the multiverse.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will introduce new gameplay mechanics, quality of life improvements, and visual upgrades along with a Modern and Retro mode for those who’d like to take a stroll down memory lane and rediscover the franchise’s iconic roots. Players will be able to play as Crash, Coco, and even as the mad scientist Neo Cortex, which will provide an alternative perspective to the game’s storyline. Some the new mechanics that will be introduced are the game’s powerful Quantum Masks, which will give players the ability to bend space and time. These abilities can be used to defeat enemies or discover creative ways on how to solve puzzles. New platforming tricks such as wall running, rail grinding, and rope swinging will also be added into Crash’s arsenal of moves.
An announcement trailer and first peek at gameplay footage has also been released by Activision, which you can watch above. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2 for $59.99.
