ChinaJoy 2019 begins today, and with it comes a whole host of titles from China-based developers as the country’s biggest gaming expo runs the whole weekend. There are tons of games that are featured, so be sure to stick around for our coverage of everything announced at this event, especially seeing as China is starting to gain footing in video game development – and that means more great games for everyone.

Besides the announcement of their newest title Biped, NEXT Studios also announced a PlayStation 4 version of their widely anticipated turn-based roguelike Crown Trick. The game was first revealed for PC, and has quite a following on both Itch.io and Gamejolt, where a demo of the game is available to download. The procedurally-generated maze-like locales may be something of note to players who enjoy challenging roguelikes, and NEXT Studios has lined up features we can expect for Crown Trick in the game’s trailers. Check it out below.

Crown Trick utilizes the classic synchronous turn-based combat that is reminiscent of old roguelikes. This means that terrain and movement come into huge focus, as every step needs to be planned out in order for you to succeed. The game also utilizes elements like Water, Fire, Ice, Wind, Poison, and Earth – these work in a system that mutually affect each other and damage your enemies in various ways. It adds another layer of depth to the already expansive gameplay, further exacerbated on by the fact that each encounter in each playthrough is different.

As the name implies, your character relies upon the eponymous crown to grant him different combat abilities. The crown itself holds dozens of monsters, all of which can be unlocked at certain levels to grant you more powers. In addition to these, there are tons of weapons, spells, traits, treasures, and tools to keep each and every run fresh and free from repetition.

Crown Trick will be released for both the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam at a later date.

ChinaJoy 2019 will run from August 2, to August 5. Expect more coverage from us as soon as it is announced.
