Cuphead, one of the best games of 2017, is set to be ported to a new platform. To call it platform would be a general term as the game is expected to be playable on the dashboard of Tesla Models. That's right, you now get to play Cuphead right in the comfort of the driver's seat.
Elon Musk, Tesla co-founder and CEO, confirmed as much during a Ride the Lightning interview. This is a weekly Tesla podcast that is hosted by Ryan McCaffrey of IGN, and this was its 200th episode. In that same interview, Musk revealed that they already have the Unity Engine working and even have a "beach buggy driving" game. After that he said that they already have Cuphead working mainly with help from Studio MDHR, Cuphead's developer. Musk even added that Cuphead was "sadistically difficult."
Cuphead is expected to be available for Tesla models Model S, and Model X by this summer. The in-car version only has the Inkwell Isle One section of the game due to the storage limitations of Tesla's models.
McCaffrey reached out to Maja Moldenhauer of Studio MDHR and in a report revealed that it was Tesla who initiated the first step to have Cuphead in their cars. According to Moldenhauer, it was both a humbling and exciting experience to learn that Musk was a fan of Cuphead and that they were offered the chance to work with an innovative company. For Moldenhauer, the only requirement they wanted in order to agree to the project was that Cuphead needed "to play super, super clean" and that it had to have precise controls. What this means is that the Tesla version of Cuphead cannot work using the touchscreen controls, and needs a wired USB controller.
Released in 2017, Cuphead has players control the titular drinking glass-shaped hero and his brother Mugman. They need to go through several levels and engage in boss fights in order to repay their debt to the devil. Cuphead is available for the PC, macOS, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
