UPDATE: Bandai Namco has confirmed the rumors. Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel heads to PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 25. The first trailer is out now and embedded at the top of this post. We'll update this post if/when we have more information.
Original Story: Details on the first batch of Dark Souls 3 downloadable content are finally creeping onto the web, despite the lack of official announcement from Bandai Namco, including pricing information and a purported release date for the Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel DLC that leaked on Tuesday.
If you think this seems like kind of a strange scenario for a modern game release, know you aren’t alone. In an era when DLC information frequently emerges before a game’s launch, it’s strange to think we don’t know anything about FromSoftware’s post-launch plans for Dark Souls 3 nearly four months after the game hit stores. Or at least we didn’t. Not before a round of leaks gave us a surprising amount of new information on the first planned Dark Souls 3 expansion.
According to Hachima, a popular Japanese gaming blog, the next issue of Famitsu (which hits stands later in the week) brings the first wave of information on Ashes of Ariandel, the first of two planned add-ons for Dark Souls 3. The story includes images of a new weapons, including a fiery sword and a light-imbued boomerang, and apparently confirms the addition of a new PvP map called Immortal Competition. Portions of the news, including the title, were later confirmed by a trailer (since pulled) published on PlayStation’s North America social media accounts.
Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll have to wait for the next issue of Famitsu to hit stands before the game’s developer or publisher confirm any of the Dark Souls 3 DLC information currently floating around the web. On the plus side, the week’s half over. So the wait won't be long now.
Dark Souls 3 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The game’s first expansion, Ashes of Ariandel, is expected to debut on October 25.
