Even though the next chapter in the famed Darksiders series doesn’t have a definite release date yet, the title is quickly gaining steam. Darksiders Genesis features a marked departure from its previous iterations. For one, it will be the game to finally introduce the final Horseman of the Apocalypse, Strife, who will share this title with none other than War, the protagonist of the original Darksiders. It’s also, as THQ Nordic and its developers iterated, not the official fourth mainline entry for the Darksiders series; rather, it’s a spinoff featuring a top-down hack and slash perspective, giving it the appearance of a dungeon crawling looter title in the same vein as Diablo rather than a third-person action adventure game.
Following its announcement last month and its subsequent coverage during E3 2019, there’s still not a lot of information as to when Darksiders Genesis will official release. However, THQ Nordic recently revealed some very special editions which are sure to catch the attention of hardcore fans of the series, as they involve some very great physical additions to the game.
Let’s start with the actual Collector’s Edition, which will be available across all platforms for $109.99 on PC and $119.99 on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. This edition includes a copy of the game, which I’m assuming is digital-only for PC (hence the cheaper price) and a physical one for consoles, a Steelbook, an official Artbook, a Soundtrack on a physical disc, a sheet of stickers, and the main attraction: a figurine of the Horseman Strife standing at around 9 inches, looking very badass with his two supernatural pistols, Mercy and Redemption. Check out the trailer for this Collector’s Edition below.
What’s even more exciting is the second one which is the Nephilim Edition. While the Collector’s Edition can be bought at a much greater quantity, the Nephilim Edition will only be limited to 5,000 units, so it’s sure to please any serious collector. It comes with all the trappings of the Collector’s Edition, along with a copy of the official board game Darksiders: The Forbidden Land. There are no details yet on this board game, but if you’re a big fan of how video games translate to tabletops then this might very well pique your interest. I would like to see that board game be available separately though, as the Nephilim Edition is quite pricey at $379.99 for both PC and consoles.
Darksiders Genesis will be released sometime later this year for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia.
