Dauntless has officially been launched for the Nintendo Switch which brings this hit online RPG to new players. The Switch version features the entire “One Dauntless” cross-platform support. This should allow Switch owners to hunt Behemoths with friends on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. This version also enables cross-progression across all devices.
The release for the Switch also marks the official debut of the game in Japan. Dauntless is being released on all available platforms in Japan and comes with full localization along with subtitle and character support.
Phoenix Labs revealed that it is releasing Stormchasers in celebration of the launch to the Switch. This is by far the biggest free content update and adds to the ever-growing live service offering of Dauntless. Stormchasers offers a lot of new things like a new gameplay experience with Escalation. Escalation culminates in a fight against a fearsome threat, the shock-infused Behemoth Malkarion. Indeed, here Slayers are challenged to go against waves of Behemoths imbued with unique modifiers. Escalation offers procedurally-generated Behemoth encounters to make sure that no run ever feels the same. Slayers can choose from different Amps that offer a range of defensive and offensive boosts after each successful encounter. Through Escalation runs, Slayers can also earn talent points that can be used to unlock boosts.
Slayers who manage to earn an Escalation level high enough by the end of the fourth encounter get the opportunity to face their most difficult test yet with the Malkarion. The Malkarion is going to be the first Behemoth in the game that gives Slayers a chance to mount their prey as well as a unique move-set that introduces a number of mechanics to challenge even the most veteran Slayers on the Shattered Isles.
There's also going to be a new type of sequential hunt featuring dual Behemoth encounters along with a number of elements of the roguelike genre. Stormchasers also marks the arrival of the new Hunt Pass, Myth & Legend. These give Slayers the chance to be able to explore the history and heroism of Ramsgate.
In a statement, Phoenix Labs CEO and co-founder Jesse Houston revealed that the Dauntless launch to the Switch is a dream come true, particularly for those who want "to offer Slayers the chance to bring Dauntless with them wherever they go with Nintendo Switch." He went on to say that the "Switch offers versatility and mobility like no other platform on the market, and with our latest content update and release in Japan, the future is bright for Slayers around the world.”
