As much as I prefer the PC master race, there is no denying that PlayStation has some of the best exclusives. However, things have been changing and for the last few months, Sony is letting go of certain exclusive titles to other platforms.
Just a few days ago, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment gave an interview where he revealed that Days Gone is coming to PC.
Ryan said that a “whole slate” of PS games is coming to PC starting with Days Gone. The zombie open-world game will launch in spring, which is from March 20 to June 20. While Days Gone didn’t exactly receive a critical reception, it’s still a good game.
The last first-party title that Sony let go of was Horizon Zero Dawn, released for PC on August 7, 2020. Horizon suffered from several technical issues, however, they are mostly patched out now.
Launching PS-exclusive games on PC makes sense, and Ryan thinks the same. According to him, games are now much more expensive to make, and so is the demand for them. Releasing PS games on PC also increases Sony’s reach to non-console players.
It’s also a good decision economically as porting games to PC is easier and not doing that is just leaving money on the table.
“The cost of making games goes up with each cycle, as the caliber of the IP has improved. Also, our ease of making it available to non-console owners has grown,” Ryan told GQ Magazine. “So it’s a fairly straightforward decision for us to make.”
So it’s confirmed that we can expect more PS-exclusive games to make their way to PC. Now my dream of playing God of War and Spiderman on PC isn’t that far-fetched. It will be interesting to see which game will be next. Maybe it will be The Last of Us Part 2.
