Rip Hunter, White Canary and the rest of The Legends arrive in Leipzig at the start of episode 3, “Blood Ties.” As they are stuck in 1975 for the time being as Hawkgirl recovers, Gideon finds Germany is Vandal Savage’s most recent location.
Sarah, aka White Canary, convinces Rip Hunter there are other ways to stop Vandal Savage besides killing him. She recites a quote from Ra’s al Ghul when she was a member of the League of Assassins, “If you can’t kill your enemy, weaken him. If you can’t cut off his head, take his heart.” Rip likes the idea and the duo decides on a plan to steal Savage’s resources. They discover Savage keeps his fortune at the oldest bank in the world, of course, and capture his banker but their plan doesn’t go as smoothly as they anticipate even though Sarah kicks some serious ass.
White Canary and Rip Hunter are captured by Savage’s men. The two are brought to a ritual where they watch Savage drink Hawkman’s blood. But that’s not all, Savage drinks the blood not only to maintain his own immortality, but his closest confidants. They are able to take back Hawkman’s body and ‘kill’ Savage but as Rip Hunter’s knife is deep in Savage’s throat he mistakenly reveals information about his family that Savage could use to kill them in them in the future.
Meanwhile back on The Wave Rider, Heat Wave, Captain Cold, and Jax take a secret trip to Central City. Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold, steals an emerald his father was planning to steal two days later. While he succeeds, Snart later finds out that the timeline doesn’t change and his father still goes to jail.
The Atom and Professor Stein are left out of the fighting this episode. The two geniuses are working to save Kendra, aka Hawkgirl. During her last encounter with Savage, she was stabbed and pieces of the knife are still inside her. Ray Palmer, aka The Atom, uses his super suit to go inside her bloodstream and destroy the remnants of the knife. He succeeds and Kendra seems to make nearly a full recovery by the end of the episode. Right as she is beginning to feel better, she strangely hallucinates the location of the White Canary and Rip Hunter and the rest of the team goes and helps them retrieve Carter’s body.
When all The Legends get back on the Wave Rider, Rip Hunter reveals he tried to kill Rip Hunter in the past, 4000 years earlier but didn’t have the courage to cut his throat. Now, he is determined to find a way to end Savage’s life for good. “You don’t ditch us, we don’t ditch you. Deal?” Snart reassures Rip and they take of to 1986 to try and find Savage once again.
