Publisher Rising Star Games and developer Toybox Games have just released a new trailer for their upcoming open-world survival horror title Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise. The trailer, which runs for a minute and 30 seconds, introduces the town of Le Carré, Louisiana in an unsettlingly nonchalant way.
The trailer starts off by introducing the town of Le Carré as a “home away from home”. It showcases everything the dreamy hamlet has to offer: beautiful natural sights such the state’s famous rivers and bayous, its iconic creole cuisine, local tourist spots such as the Alexus Bar ‘n’ Lane, and the hospitable Casa Pineapple. However, at the midpoint of the video, the viewer is given glimpses of the jarring secrets the town hides. Flashes of a monstrous baby creature are seen, a crime scene involving FBI agents and a mutilated body in an ice block, dreamlike sequences with unnatural creatures, and more. I’m guessing players won’t be happy just like a “dead pig in the sunshine,” like the video says.
On the game’s website, it tells that Deadly Premonition 2 employs a “unique storytelling” technique wherein players are brought back and forth through time: Boston in 2019 and Le Carré in 2005. This technique is eerily reminiscent of first season of the critically acclaimed crime-thriller TV series True Detective, wherein perspective of both detectives (played by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey) regarding a past case is told in the present. If it is indeed going to be presented that way, it is very exciting to see how Toybox Games will work with it.
Players will control Special Agent York and will be seeing his perspectives on his past work in Le Carré as Agents Davis and Jones launch a new investigation about the past murders. Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise has been described as both a prequel and a sequel for the original title released 10 years ago.
Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise is set to release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on July 10. It is now available for pre-order for $49.99.
