If you're caught up with Silicon Valley Season 3, you’re familiar with TJ Miller’s Erlich Bachman. Miller maintains a similar persona for Deadpool, but instead of Erlich, he goes by the alias Weasel. We got only a taste of Deadpool’s witty bartender-sidekick, but get acquainted, because there’s going to be a lot more Weasel in the years to come.
Cinema Blend caught up with Miller, who revealed Deadpool isn't stopping with a sequel. There could be as many as three more Deadpool movies, but Weasel doesn't stop there. According to Miller, his character is going to squeeze himself further into the X-Men franchise with a few cameos. Believe it or not, it gets even better. Apparently there’s talk of a Weasel spinoff?
“Deadpool is not going anywhere anytime soon. I think there’s probably going to be three more installments, a Weasel spin off. I’m contractually obliged to do the cameos in other X-Men universe stuff, so there’s plenty more Deadpool to come,” Miller said.
Considering Miller is silly by nature, take the Weasel spinoff with a grain of salt. Even if it's true, a solo Weasel film probably won’t come to fruition until the very distant future. It’s no secret Deadpool wants to carve a spot deeper into the X-Men franchise (where he belongs), so it doesn't come as a surprise Weasel goes along with him. There’s talk of setting Wade up for an X-Force movie, so that may be one of the cameo’s Miller is hinting at. However, if Weasel follows the path of his comic book character, he’s set to transform into Deadpool’s whipping boy / fugitive mercenary partner known as The House. This may happen as soon as Deadpool 2 . Even if he never invents his shitty knock off super suit, we’ll be seeing his face regardless since he’s still Deadpool’s best friend and weapons dealer.
“I’m excited about the prospect of a Weasel spin-off, because he makes this super suit, that’s not great and it’s a superhero in Las Vegas protects casinos. I mean, it just, everything about it is perfect for me… What if the Iron Man suit was sort of budget, like he can’t fly, but he can hover three or four feet,” Miller said.
This isn’t the first time Miller has hinted at Weasel eventually becoming The House. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Miller joked he’s been asking the creative team to strap him up with some firepower.
“I keep asking them to give Weasel some guns. I think that would be really fun. Because eventually in the comic book he becomes a superhero but, like, not a great one,” Miller said. “He’s the Penetrator. He really is! He’s like, ‘I’m going to be the Penetrator. We’re going to penetrate injustice!’ And people are like, ‘I don’t think that’s a great name.’ And I’m like, ‘Why? It makes perfect sense’”
Deadpool 2 is currently in the works. There’s no official release date yet.
