Daredevil ’s Charlie Cox finally let us in on the timeline for Marvel’s The Defenders Netflix series, which will begin production late 2016.
"What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome," Cox announced during a Netflix press event in Paris.
The Defenders will unite Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist for an Avengers-style miniseries. Daredevil Season 1 was the first to release, followed by Jessica Jones Season 1, then Daredevil Season 2 in March. Luke Cage, who was introduced in Jessica Jones , will make his solo debut on Netflix September 30. Iron Fist, the final Defenders character introduction, is currently in production. Iron Fist Season 1 and Jessica Jones Season 2 are both due sometime in 2017.
The Defenders series is expected sometime after the second season of Jessica Jones. Cox said he hasn’t been briefed on the storyline yet. He’s not sure if one particular storyline will dominate or carry over into The Defenders series.
"I have no idea what the storyline is going to be for that show," Cox cautioned. "I'm very excited to see how those worlds combine, and interested to see tonally how those shows become one."
Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos spoke on the timing of The Defenders during a Television Critics Association presentation in January when Jessica Jones Season 2 was announced.
“The complex one is really running into The Defenders , he said. “ The Defenders production schedule will determine the production schedule of second and third seasons. It’s a work in progress.”
Sounds like we may not see a second season of Luke Cage or Iron Fist before The Defenders . How do you think this release schedule will play out? Let us know in the comments below!
