The Defenders is the newest Marvel installment on Netflix and it’s been a long time coming. The series has been planned since the first season of Daredevil. Five standalone, 13-episode shows later-- Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist -- and now we have The Defenders. That’s 65 hours worth of television already. Come Friday Aug. 18, we can tack on another eight hours.
So when does The Defenders release on Netflix? For folks on the East Coast, like us, The Defenders arrives on Netflix at 3:01 AM EDT. For fans on the West Coast, have your snacks ready by 12:01 PDT.
What can you expect? Just an all-star team up comic book fans have been yearning for ever since Daredevil was announced. More notably, The Defenders teases Heroes For Hire--the beloved partnership between Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
Why are these heroes uniting? Well, to save New York of course. Against who? Someone named Alexandra, played by Sigourney Weaver, whom we know absolutely nothing about. Weaver kept her lips sealed during a recent interview, but did share a few tidbits for you to ponder ahead of time, such as why she has a peculiar interest in Iron Fist and if she’s working with Madame Gao.
We also talked to the cast of The Defenders at San Diego Comic-Con. Finn Jones said he thinks a future Heroes for Hire spinoff should explore Iron Fist’s white privilege if it happens. He also told Mike Colter that Luke Cage needs to “keep it in his pants.” We kind of agree -- dude’s been with Misty Knight, Claire Temple and Jessica Jones. That whole situation should make The Defenders pretty interesting.
Charlie Cox also told us “he’d take it to the end” to get Elektra back and explained why he and Jessica Jones genuinely like each other, even going so far to say he wishes he could get a cameo in her series. Jessica Henwick also teased the possibility of Daughters of the Dragon coming to fruition in Iron Fist Season 2, confirming she and Misty Knight will meet in The Defenders. And last but not least, we also talked to Jessica Jones about why she only wears one pair of jeans.
We’ve also got a spoiler-free review if you want to check it out ahead of the series premiere. Will you be bingeing all 8 episodes on Friday? Let us know in the comments.
