Destiny 2
Destiny 2 Bungie

Destiny 2 has been criticized by some fans for being too similar to its predecessor, and that argument gained new traction with the discovery of an old glitch in the new game’s beta. If you want to get unlimited Super for your character, make it happen just like you did in Destiny 1.

The discovery was first noticed on an LaB Twitch stream and was subsequently posted on reddit. Here are all the steps required to trigger the glitch.

  1. During the Inverted Spire strike wait for Pikes to arrive by killing all enemies at the strike’s starting location. This fight can take a little while, but, if you wait long enough, the fallen Pikes will spawn there.
  2. While mounting a pike press L1+R1 (LB+RB) to activate your Super. If done correctly, you’ll see your character is still holding their Super weapon while on the vehicle. The timing is a little tight, but you essentially want to activate your Super about half a second before hopping aboard.
  3. Open up your inventory, switch out your primary weapon for something else and switch it back.

This method has been confirmed to work for the Hunter’s Arcstrider subclass, the Titan’s Sentinel subclass and the Warlock’s Dawnblade. In other words, you should be successful at pulling off this bug for pretty much any character in the beta. It only works for the single moment where Pikes are boarded, but it’s an interesting find nonetheless.

What makes it so interesting, of course, is that the exact same glitch has been making the rounds in Destiny 1 since February. It’s performed the exact same way by summoning a Sparrow and activating a Super while mounting the vehicle. Because the Sparrow is required to trigger it the glitch never had much of an impact on PvP, but it was still something that made the game’s diehard players take notice.

The reason why this glitch would still exist in Destiny 2 is quite simple. Apparently the game engine is similar enough between games that the same flaws carry across both titles. That being said, it’s a bit embarrassing and slightly concerning to see Bungie hasn’t patched something that’s been extremely well known for such a long time. Yes, this is beta code, and we expect the issue to be fully fixed for the final game. But, especially for the hardcore crowd that’s anticipating major progress for this 2017 release, preserving an old glitch in the code doesn’t exactly leave the best first public impression most players are going to have.

Destiny 2 began PS4 early access beta Tuesday afternoon and will launch on Xbox One in a few hours. All console players will be able to experience the action for themselves starting July 21.

Destiny 2 comes to PS4 and Xbox One Sept. 6. The game launches on PC Oct. 24.
