If you’ve been playing Destiny 2 and already reached level 20, you’ve been farming engrams like they were worth real-world money. In order to get stronger, you’ll need to get as many of these shiny imperial diamonds as possible, either by completing public quests or pleasing faction leaders. On each planet, there’s a single character who you can exchange certain tokens and items with for progress on their faction bar. Once it’s completely filled, you’ll get an Engram, which can contain some truly awesome loot.
If you’ve just hit level 20, I’d recommend holding off on chasing an engram. Rewards are determined from what power level you are when you received the thing, meaning that you want to exchange them until you’re at least around power level 240. Before then, all you’ll do is waste what you have and end up with another Coldheart. Getting stronger rewards is the only way to get ready for the Raids before they come and you don’t want to waste your opportunity.
Nearly every faction leader can sell you some uncommon loot for glimmer, which you should almost never do. The universe’s currency can be spent on upgrading weapons and applying shaders, there’s no reason to waste your money on useless weapons when better ones will randomly drop as loot.
Most faction leaders are happy with Tokens, which can be found in chests, defeating public events or completing quests. Others can give you engrams from playing PVP, raids or dismantling weapons. Here’s every Faction Leader and where you can find them.
Commander Zavala- The Farm/ Tower- Exchange Vanguard Tactician Tokens for Faction Reputation.
Ikora Rey- The Farm/ Tower- Complete Meditiations, which allow you to replay story missions you’ve completed, to earn her favor.
Lord Shaxx- The Farm/ Tower- Fight in the PVP Crucible to earn Crucible Tokens.
Arcite 99-40- The Farm- Break down Rare or Legendary gear for Gunsmith Materials to earn their favor. The easiest faction to complete, by far.
Gunsmith- The Tower- (Same as Arcite 99-40)
Devrim Kay- EDZ- Collect EDZ Tokens or Dusklight Shards.
Sloane- Titan- Collect Arcology Tokens or Alkane Dust, which look like large molecules.
Failsafe- Nessus- Nessus Tokens and Microphasic Datalattice.make this sassy bot happy.
IO- Asher- All he wants are tokens.
Dead Orbit/ Future War Cult/ New Monarchy- These representatives aren’t in the game yet, but stations have been set up for them in the Tower.
Xur- Not here yet, but will be coming on Sep. 15.
