We’ve known for years that Destiny wouldn’t be a one-off release, with Activision reportedly investing hundreds of millions of dollars in the franchise, but new information on the purported sequel, Destiny 2, hasn’t exactly been easy to come by over the last three years. But a new job listing on Bungie’s website may have just given us a significant update on the storytelling changes we’ll see reflected in Destiny 2 when the highly-anticipated sequel debuts next year.
According to the post, Bungie is now actively seeking out a new narrative director to help out with the yet-to-be-named Destiny sequel. And it sounds like the studio plans to change how it tells new stories when Destiny 2 -- or whatever the game ends up being called -- heads to PC(?) and consoles next year. Instead of waiting for large, retail-ready releases like The Taken King or Rise Of Iron, players can look forward to seeing smaller, more frequent updates to the Destiny story throughout the year. There’s no word on a potential release schedule, so it’s hard to know just how much of an impact the new hire will have, though it sounds like Bungie is looking for someone with big ideas for the Destiny franchise. Vicarious Visions, the studio recently confirmed to be helping out with the next chapter of Destiny’s life, may help shape the plot of Destiny 2 too.
Here’s what Bungie had to say in the job listing:
“As a Narrative Director, you will direct the storytelling efforts for regular, small-scale Destiny releases throughout the calendar year . Our ideal candidate has a deep understanding of interactive storytelling with strong organizational and leadership skills as well as an ability to work with external partners . A proven record of prioritizing resources against creative goals in a fast-paced release environment is a must.”
Destiny: Rise Of Iron is currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game’s long-awaited sequel is expected to debut sometime in Fall 2017.
