New information on Destiny 2 continues to trickle out of Bungie and Activision ahead of this month’s highly anticipated beta tests. There’s still a great deal we don’t know about the sequel or the studio’s plans to support the game after launch. But new comments from Destiny 2 game director Luke Smith and Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg offer a bit of clarification on what we can expect after the game hits stores. We even get a small teaser for the game’s first raid.
A pair of new interviews offer additional insight into the development of the game’s upcoming sequel. Mashable published new comments from Smith that offer a small but significant tidbit of information on the game’s first raid. According to the D2 game director, Bungie spent three years creating environments that were really good at delivering one specific feeling, whether that be the thrill of heroism or a pervading sense of mystery. And that goal, delivering memorable environments with a singular focus, will remain unchanged when the team begins work on post-launch content for the sequel. Smith says the Destiny 2 team focused on creating an environment that the community will “believe is real” for the game’s first raid. Smith didn’t elaborate any further, but perhaps we can expect whatever replaces the Grimoire system to play a significant role in the experience?
GamesIndustry.biz also published a conversation with Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg, featuring the executive’s thoughts on the underwhelming amount of post-launch content released for the first Destiny. Hirshberg says the glacial pace (my words, not his) at which Bungie released new content is part of why Activision brought in Vicarious Visions and High Moon to help with the sequel. And with two more studios under the publisher’s umbrella working on Destiny 2, the Activision CEO says fans can expect “an even more robust pipeline of content.”
For an early look at Destiny 2, take some time to revisit the gameplay premiere that aired back in May and/or the E3 2017 trailer that debuted last month. Then head down to the comments and let us know what you’re hoping to see in the Destiny sequel when it debuts later this year.
Destiny 2 is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. The game heads to consoles on Sept. 6 before making the jump to PC in October.
